Memorandum of Agreement
OCTEVAW welcomes participation and input from all sectors and from all people. We are especially dedicated to ensuring accessibility and inclusivity of all women, including survivors of violence. Women who may have specific needs or requests regarding involvement are encouraged to contact the OCTEVAW office.
*All members and participants receive the benefits of our website, including posting on our Event calendar.
Voting Member:
There are three types of voting members:
- Agency Members
Agency members designate at least one representative from their agency to join any OCTEVAW standing committee. All agency members are allocated one vote each. - Individual Members
Individual members can join any OCTEVAW standing committee and are allocated one vote each. - Honorary Members
The OCTEVAW Steering Committee may consider granting honorary membership to individuals who, by virtue of their past contributions or achievements in ending violence against women and children, merit the title “Honorary Member.” Honorary members are allocated one vote each.
If you or your agency is interested in becoming a voting OCTEVAW member please read the following application criteria:
- the organization, by its stated purpose, objectives, programs and/or actions demonstrates that it is working to end violence against women and/or their children or the individual has demonstrated a commitment to ending violence against women and their children;
- the organization or individual agrees to support OCTEVAW in achieving its purposes and objectives, and agrees with the principles enunciated in the OCTEVAW mission, vision and values statement;
- the organization is located or the individual resides within the City of Ottawa or surrounding regions;
- the organization agrees to designate a representative who will consistently attend OCTEVAW meetings or the individual agrees to consistently attend OCTEVAW meetings;
- the organization or the individual agrees to sign the OCTEVAW Memorandum of Agreement regarding membership rights and obligations;
- the organization is non-partisan;
- the organization is non-profit;
- the organization or the individual is not in a position to fund OCTEVAW and thus to have potentially conflicting interests and responsibilities.
Upon acceptance all voting members, both individual and agency, pay an annual membership fee of $40.00 which goes directly to OCTEVAW project development. Please make cheque out to Family Services à la famille Ottawa c/o OCTEVAW.
To honour the accessibility and inclusivity of all women, membership fees can be waived or reduced on request.

Non-Voting Participants:
Individuals and organizations who do not meet all the criteria for membership are encouraged to contribute to, and participate in OCTEVAW Standing Committees as well. Non-voting participants are not required to pay membership fees or sign our Memorandum of Agreement.
